Vernice Marcantel Taylor
Vernice Marcantel Taylor, a retired store owner, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Guest House. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Opelousas. She was born Aug. 19, 1912. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday until religious service in the chapel at 1:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Jim Nichols. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park.
She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Frost Taylor of Baton Rouge and Mildred LaPorte Taylor of Watson; a son, Charles Byrne Taylor of San Antonio; a son-in-law, Glenny P. Blanchard of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Hazel Marcantel Morain of Greenwell Springs and Winnie Marcantel Zito of Westlake; three sisters-in-law, Amynthe Courville Marcantel, Ada Morain Marcantel and Rachel Cagle Marcantel, all of Baton Rouge; a brother, Elvin Marcantel and wife Esther of Westlake; nine grandchildren, Nancy Taylor and husband Jim Wagenaar of Baton Rouge, Donna Blanchard of Charleston, S.C., Valerie Taylor and husband Don Dixson of Fort Worth, Texas, Connie Clegg and husband Luther Perkins of Pride, Robert W. and wife Kim Pritchard Taylor of Watson, Russell Wade and wife Laurie O'Neal Taylor of Baton Rouge, Darwin and wife Bonnie Clegg of Prairieville, Charles Byrne and wife Vickie Taylor of Fort Worth and David Taylor of San Antonio; six great-grandchildren; a special friend, Jackie Fontenot of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Lea Fruge Marcantel; husband, Herman M. Taylor; two sons, Herman Roy Taylor and Robert Warren Taylor; a daughter, Nell Taylor Blanchard; a granddaughter, Jerri Blanchard Kennedy; a sister, Rosa Marcantel Marcotte; and four brothers, Idiol Joseph "Blackie," Marion Joseph, Roland Joseph and Nealon Joseph Marcantel.
