Vernon Campbell

Vernon Campbell, 74, of 640 Bellevue, Clinton, died late Friday night in St. Dominic's Hospital, following an extended illness.

He was a native of Meadville, a former resident of Vidalia, La., but had made his home in Clinton with his son for the past four years. Prior to his retirement, he was an engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad, with over 47 years of service. He was a Baptist and was a member of the Brotherhood Railroad Trainmen.

Survivors include one son, Joe Campbell of Clinton, one daughter, Mrs. Bill (Ida Pearl) Foltz of Daleville, Ala., three grandchildren, one brother, J. C. Campbell of Gulfport, three sisters, Mrs. Scott Hansville and Mrs. Vivian Kirk both of Gulfport, and Mrs. Callie Kent of Bozier [sic Bossier] City, La.

A prayer service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home with Dr. Joe H. Tuten, officiating.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday from the Providence Baptist Church, near Meadville, with the pastor, Rev. John Hill, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
