Vernon Carlisle
SHREVEPORT, LA - Mr. Vernon Carlisle, 74, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 following open heart bypass surgery. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2000 in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Byer of First Assembly of God in Shreveport.
Mr. Carlisle was born in Clarks, LA on March 28, 1926. He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1943 and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He joined the LOF Glass Factory in 1946 and worked as an electrician and when it closed the plate glass division he went to work for Weyerhaeuser Company as an electrician in several of their plants including Enid, OK and DeQueen, AR and retired in 1984. He was a member of the Elk's Club and until recently was a volunteer at Christus Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center.
Mr. Carlisle was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Carlisle and Bernice Burns Carlisle and his wife, Marie Carlisle.
He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Lee of Minnesota; step-mother, Louise Carlisle; half brother, A. J. Carlisle, Jr. and wife, Terry; two half-sisters, Nelda Jowers of Shreveport and Ellen Leavitt of Twin Falls, ID; a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving him is his step-daughter, Jenifer Richardson and husband, Carl of Greenwood; step-grandson, Pat Richardson and wife, Terri of Blanchard; step-granddaughter, Melissa Swarr and husband, Frank of New Orleans; four great-grandchildren and his devoted friend and former wife, Joyce Carlisle of Atlanta, TX.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bickham, A. J. Carlisle, Jr., Shane Carlisle, Tony Jowers, Pat Richardson, Frank Swarr and Randy Guynes.
