BOAT TURNS OVER; TYLER MAN DROWNS

Accident Occurs While Three Were Fishing Near Campti

Campti, April 18 (Special) -- When the boat in which he was fishing suddenly overturned and submerged in rough water, Vernon Howze, 52, Tyler, Texas oil man, was drowned in Black lake seven miles from Campti this afternoon.

Mrs. Howze, also in the vessel escaped unhurt by clinging to the overturned boat and tree-tops in the water, but late last night a search still continued for the body of Howard Fisher, negro guide who was lost in the mishap.

Other fishermen on the shores of the lake heard screams and immediately rowed through the choppy waters to pick up the three. They performed artificial respiration on Howze for more than an hour before he was pronounced dead by Dr. J. N. Brown of Campti. John Cunningham, one of the rescuers, estimated the time of the accident at about 3:15 p.m.

Osborn funeral home in Shreveport has charge of funeral arrangements which have not been completed.

Surviving are the widow and two small children.

Mr. Howze is survived by his widow and one daughter, Mrs. W. R. Niblack of Austin Texas, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held in Tyler Sunday at 5 p.m. The hour has not been set. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery there. Osborn funeral home of Shreveport will take the body to Tyler Sunday morning.
