Vernon Twomey
Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Twomey, 54, of the Old Center Community were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 1996 at Hawthorn Funeral Home in Carthage. The Rev. Earl Moore and Rev. Barney Bryant officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Twomey died Sunday, May 5 at Panola General Hospital.
Born on July 20, 1941 in Panola County, he was the son of Joy Laverne Kyle and Delbert L. Twomey. Mr. Twomey had been a lifetime resident of Panola County, and a member of the Old Center Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 AF & AM, and served on the Board of Directors of the Deep East Texas Co-op for eight years. Mr. Twomey worked for the Texas Highway Department for 13 years in the maintenance division before starting his trucking business.
Mr. Twomey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Twomey of Old Center; his mother, Mrs. Joy Laverne Twomey; one son and daughter-in-law, Shannon and Tracey Twomey; one daughter, Shonda Twomey; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rob and Betty Twomey, and Henry and Patricia Twomey; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane and Tom Gallenbach, and Nan and Larry Powell; grandchildren, Jacob Twomey, Joshua Twomey, and Jared Twomey, all of Old Center.
Pallbearers were James Ray Grafton, Henry Wyatt, Dale Jones, Kenneth Williams, Wayne Bryant, and Tommy Knight.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Sammy Creech, Larry Powell, Ralph Funk, Billy Crawford, and Bobby Etheredge Sr.
