VERSIE W. RONEY

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 7, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Liberty for Versie Whittington Roney, 90, of Liberty. Rev. Ernest Whittington officiated. Burial was in the Town of Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scotty Whittington, George Riley Walsh, Warren Walsh, Keith Felder, Brandon Hayden and Greg Wilkinson.

Honorary pallbearers were Pete Farrar and Danny Anderson.

Ms. Roney passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Liberty Community Living Center.

Born February 2, 1922, in Amite County, Ms. Roney was the daughter of Grover Cleveland Whittington and Myrtis W. Whittington, both deceased.

Ms. Roney was employed in numerous care-giving posi- tions at Ellisville State School from September 1, 1942, until her retirement on May 31, 1987. In recognition of nearly forty-five years of service to the school, a street on campus was named for Ms. Roney. After her retirement, she returned to Liberty to be closer to family.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Roney was preceded in death by her siblings, Shelley, Clyde, Hylon, Hoyt, Roy, Everet, Ouida, Hershel and Linus Whittington and Trudie Whittington Felder; her nieces and nephews, lone Walsh, Boise Moore, Connie Roberts, Wayne Whittington, Jackie Whittington and Barbara Ernest.

Ms. Roney leaves behind to cherish her memory a brother-in-law, William Albert Felder of Liberty; nephews and nieces, Scotty Whittington, Pete Farrar, Keith Felder and Pam Felder, all of Liberty, Allen Whittington and Eurcelle Dimaio of Baton Rouge and Kay Whittington Jackson of El Paso, Texas; great-nieces and great- nephews, Kelly Crupper of LaBelle of Florida, Amy Blocker of Immokalee, Florida, David Whittington of Hickory, North Carolina, Diane Walsh of Baton Rouge, Denise Walsh of Ocean Springs, Danny Anderson of Monticello, George Riley Walsh, Warren Walsh, Alex Felder and Ashley Felder, all of Liberty.
