Jasper Woman Is Dead At 101
A 101-year-old woman who was active until January of this year, died Sunday night at the home of her daughter in Ellisville.
Mrs. Vinnie Knotts Rayner was born Sept. 13, 1869, according to court records in Montrose, Jasper County where she lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Allen J. and Becky Smith Knotts of Bay Springs.
Mrs. Rayner was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, and remained alert and active until this year when she needed a wheelchair for the first time in her life.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the chapel of Memory Chapel in Bay Springs with the Revs. Ben Evans, R. E. Clark and J. E. Lampkin officiating. Burial will be in Bay Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Rayner is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Lela [sic Lelia] Ratcliff, Stringer; Mrs. Alice Wood, Ellisville; Mrs. Otis Johnson, Taylorsville, Mrs. Levie Jewel Jackson of Laurel; five sons: Allen Rayner, Roy Rayner, Ruben Rayner, all of Bay Springs; Horace Rayner and Andrew Rayner, both of Stringer; 56 grandchildren; 129 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
