Viola B. Jones

Services for Viola B. Jones were held Friday, April 25 in the Chapel of Kramer of Colfax with the Rev. Ralph Johnson, Rev. Brad Webb and Rev. Loyd Bernard Harrison, III officiating. Burial was in Hargis Cemetery, Montgomery under the direction of Kramer of Colfax.

Viola B. Jones, 98, of Colfax died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in Rapides Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on March 24, 1910 in Gans Community in Winn Parish. She married Lee Otis Jones from Cypress Creek Community on March 18, 1930, and after a few years they moved to Winnfield where Otis was a store manager. Viola was active in the community and was a homemaker. They moved their family to Montgomery in the 1940's where Otis managed Milama's Store. They later bought a farm in Hargis where they both became members of Hargis Baptist Church. Otis led the music and Viola worked in Youth activities. She has remained a member of Hargis Baptist Church. After Otis passed away Viola moved to Colfax. She was a wonderful cook, loved to fish, pick up pecans, was an avid gardener and caregiver to the young and old alike. She remained active well into her 90's.

Her husband, Lee Otis Jones; two sons, Ellis Wayne Jones and Ronald Glen Jones; her brothers, Dewey Buchanan, E. J. Buchanan, Robert Buchanan, Eugene Buchanan, Arnold Lee Buchanan, and Odie Buchanan; and her sisters, Susie Williams, Seleta Williams, Pearl Lester, Mae Jones, and Edna Burton, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Doris Olene Harrison of Colfax and Velma Lee Fletcher of Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jones of Lafayette; her grandchildren, Loyd Bernard Harrison, Jr. (Nardie), and wife, Joyce, Janis Jones and husband, Dr. David Jones, Mel Harrison, Greg Jones, Kimberly Arceneaux, Ron Jones, Connie Slaughter, Debbie Beasley, and husband, Mike; her great-grandchildren, Trent Harrison Barron, Loyd Bernard Harrison, III, (Trey), Cody Harrison, Jeremy Harrison, Charlie Harrison, Kim Gibbs, Mike Slaughter, Margaret Slaughter, Hunter Slaughter, Claire Slaughter, Gregory Jones, Brittany Sharbono, Brooklyn Arceneaux, Brenton Arceneaux, Megan Harrison, Maggie Harrison, Eva Slaughter, Elizabeth Slaughter, Abbey Slaughter, Melissa Kendrew, Jessica Vanasselberg, and Natalie Crooks; and her great-great-grandchildren, Caden Kendrew (born her 90th birthday), Cameron Harrison, Logan Bartlett, Brocklyn Bartlett, Kasey Sullivan, and Alexis Glover. She has many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Nardie Harrison, Mel Harrison, Mike Beasley, Jeremy Harrison, Charlie Harrison, Mark Jackson, and Steve Jackson.

Memorials may be made to Montgomery Methodist Church, Montgomery Northside Baptist Church. or donor of choice.
