Viola Burnett

Viola Burnett, 86, of Duncan passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, in Wilkins Nursing Home in Duncan.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Bailes-Polk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Riddle officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Burnett was born on Feb. 9, 1910, in Mesquite, Texas, to James David and Mary Cora Williams Strange. In 1929 she came to Duncan, where she lived most of her life. She married Herman Burnett on Nov. 15, 1929, in Sulphur. He preceded her in death in November 1981.

She attended Sulphur schools and was a nurse's aide at Plato Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Doyle Strange of Houston; five sisters, Nellie Olney and Frances McCoy, both of Abilene, Texas, Velma Viglante [sic Vigilante] of Moss Plains, N.J., Juanita Birdsong of Houston and Margaret Wood of Duncan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
