Violet McCarty Shows, 89, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Natchez, Miss., died peacefully at Maranatha Manor on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, following a three year period of declining health. Violet was born April 12, 1917, in Sikes, La., to the late Henry and Lura Crain McCarty. She was married to Johnnie Shows on March 18, 1935. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1936, and in 1938 she became a lifelong member of the Assemblies of God fellowship, serving faithfully in various lay ministry positions in Cullen, La., Natchez, Miss., and Springfield, Mo. She was employed as a food service supervisor at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital from 1960 to 1964; and from 1964 until her retirement in 1981 she was a cafeteria manager in the Adams County, Miss., public school system.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie in 1996, and by two daughters, Sandra Gayle and Wanda Sue. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Gloria and Jim Argue, Glenda and Hubert Morris, and John and Roslyn Shows, all of Springfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. The grandchildren include: Debbie and Dave Pedde, Minneapolis, Minn; Randy and Michele Argue, Mission Viejo, Calif.; Angela and Dale Donadio, Fredericksburg, Va.; Deanna and Kevin Ragsdale, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Sabrina and Kirk Gurney, Gross Ile, Mich.; Leah and Matt Miller, Rockford, Ill.; and Rachelle and Shane Peak, Springfield, Mo.

A memorial service and interment will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 18, in the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery in Sikes, La. Floral tributes may be sent to Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, La.; or memorial contributions can be made to the Wanda Shows Endowed Music Scholarship at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo.
