Virgel Merriott

Services for Virgel Wenner Merriott, 65, of Lubbock will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church on the Rock in Lubbock with the Rev. Jackie White officiating.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Lazbuddie Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

He died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in Lubbock.

He was born July 26, 1937, in Clovis, N.M. He married Claudia Mayberry on Dec. 15, 2001, in Lubbock. He grew up near Lazbuddie and graduated from Lazbuddue High School and Draughon's Business College in Lubbock. He was a real-estate broker, home builder, businessman and lived in Lubbock, Hereford and Amarillo. He built homes in Lubbock, Littlefield, Hereford and Dimmitt. He was president of the Hereford Board of Realtors. He returned to Lubbock in 1974. He was president of the Lubbock Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International and was a member of Trinity Church and Church on the Rock.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Randall of Lubbock; three daughters, Ralna Cunningham of Billings, Mont., and Holly Hallford and Poppy Sawyer, both of Lubbock; and 11 grandchildren.
