Virgie Mae Etheridge

Virgie Mae Etheridge, 86, a longtime resident of the Homochitto community near Gloster, died Sept. 13, 2008, at her home.

Visitation is 6 to 9 tonight at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster and 9 a.m. Tuesday at Royal Chapel Church near Gloster until services there at 10 a.m. The Rev. Wayne Sellers and the Rev. Max Foreman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Mrs. Etheridge was born Sept. 1, 1922, in the Homochitto community in Amite County, to Pearl and Myrtis Bass Whittington.

She was a homemaker and longtime member of Royal Chapel Methodist Protestant Church.

Mrs. Etheridge was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Etheridge; a son, Michael Etheridge; her parents; a brother, Richard Whittington; and a sister, Thelma Etheridge.

Survivors include four sons, James ``Jim'' Etheridge of Laurel, R.G. Etheridge and his wife Hilda of Gloster, Joe Etheridge of Natchez, and Tommy Etheridge and his wife Jody of Petal; two daughters, Jan Anders Blanchard of Pierre Part, La., and Laurie Medrano and husband Andy of Deridder, La.; a daughter-in-law, Annie Pearl Etheridge Cox; a sister, Francis Mitchell of Gloster; five brothers, Gordie Whittington, Linus Whittington and his wife Bonnie, and Virgil Whittington, all of Gloster, Robert Whittington of Baton Rouge, and Harrell Whittington and his wife Sue of Greenville, S.C.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
