VIRGIL A. WHITTINGTON

Funeral services were held for Virgil Allen Whittington, 70, of Gloster, Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster. Rev. Greg Touchstone officiated. Burial was in Collins Branch Cemetery near Gloster.

Mr. Whittington passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009, at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex in Jackson, Louisiana.

Born March 23, 1939, in Amite County, Mr. Whittington was the son of Pearl and Myrtis Bass Whittington, both deceased.

Mr. Whittington was a land surveyor and worked for St. Regis Co. in Crosby.

Mr. Whittington was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Crosby Baptist Church.

In addition to his parent[s], Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Chesney Whittington; two brothers, Richard and Gordie Whittington; and two sisters, Thelma and Virgie Etheridge.

Mr. Whittington is survived by a son, Gerald E. Allen of Gloster; three brothers, Linus Whittington of Gloster, Robert Whittington of Baton Rouge and Harrell Whittington of Greenville, South Carolina; and a sister, Frances Mitchell of Gloster.
