Virginia Lilice “Ginny” Weaver

Virginia Lilice Weaver, 91, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2013, at The Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was born on September 30, 1921, in Brooklyn, Indiana, to Robert and Anna (Kearney) McClarren. Virginia, fondly known as Ginny, grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after her parents divorced. When her mother remarried, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where she met and married Keith Vernon Long in February 1941. They moved frequently as Keith was trained as a Navy fighter pilot, being commissioned in 1943. Their marriage was blessed with their daughter, Joyce Lilice, born January 29, 1944, in Jacksonville. Keith was killed in action in the Pacific piloting a Grumman F6F Hellcat later that year. In 1948, Ginny met and married Robert J. “Bob” Weaver in Jacksonville. Robert had a daughter, Courtney Ann. Both children were adopted by the other parent. As a Navy wife, Ginny lived in many places and made many life-long friends. While married to Bob, Ginny lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, on two separate occasions and Oak Harbor, Washington. When back in Corpus for the second time, she operated the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station ceramics shop. She produced many beautiful ceramic objects there and taught many others how to make them.
Upon Bob's death in 1992, she joined her daughter, Joyce, in Seattle, Washington, where she enjoyed going to church, working as an officer in the AARP Chapter, volunteering at a local hospital and dancing at the Edmond's Senior Center. In 2002, she moved to Tallahassee, Florida, where she spent her final years at Westminster Oaks enjoying her daughter's and granddaughter's family in Tallahassee and her many relatives in Jacksonville.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Anna (Kearney) McClarren and her two husbands, Keith Vernon Long and Robert J. Weaver, along with a brother, Donald Gearhart, a sister, Leatrice Joyce “Babe” Spradlin, and a daughter, Courtney Ann Burnsed.
Ginny is survived by her sister, Helena Finn; a daughter, Joyce Damron (Lynn); granddaughter, Kimberly Damron (Lee Moreno); and great-grandson, Kayden Moreno; grandson, Jamie Burnsed (Bessie); great-grandchildren, Steve, Tim, Dillion, and Kayla Burnsed; and great-great-grandchildren, Spenser and Ariel Burnsed. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at the Westminster Oaks Frances Chapel on Saturday, March 23rd at 2:00 PM. The family would like to thank the staff at both Westminster Oaks and the Big Bend Hospice House for their compassionate care of our dear Ginny during her final days.
