VIVIAN DORIS MIEARS
Kerbow Funeral Home

SONORA -- Vivian Doris Miears, affectionately known as Vi or Viv, died of cancer Friday, July 11, 2003, in the Hudspeth Memorial Hospital in Sonora, Texas. She was born Aug. 1, 1941, in Sonora to Freeman and Irene Miears, who preceded her in death.

Vivian graduated from Sonora High School in 1960 and was also a graduate of Draughon's Business School in San Antonio. After graduating from Draughon's, she worked as a bookkeeper at Page Drug in San Antonio for a year before returning to Sonora where she worked in accounting at Cameron's Lumber Co., at the Sonora Veterinary Clinic and later at the Sonora Independent School District. For a few years, she left Sonora to work in Austin and in Irving with the Irving Independent School District.

In 1987, she returned to Sonora and became the owner of Vivian's Modern Way for more than 10 years. For the past six years, she enjoyed a successful career as manager of KHOS radio in Sonora. People often referred to her as the ``voice of Sonora.'' As the manager at KHOS, she was the top salesman for the past two years and had the opportunity to share her successes at a national conference in Tennessee last fall. She loved greeting people and helping them promote their businesses on the radio.

Vivian was active in the community and served on the Sonora City Council for the past year and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. She was active in the Sonora Mainstreet Program and served as its president for three years. Later, she was instrumental in organizing the Friends of Historic Sonora Mainstreet Program. She was also actively involved in initiating annual homecoming activities for Sonora High School. In brief, she loved Sonora and willingly devoted her time and energies to the community.

Her sister, Dr. Elaine Roberson and her husband, George, of Trophy Club, Texas, and her brother, Royce Miears and his wife, Gloria, their daughter, Danielle Matthews of Sonora and their son, Bryce Matthews and his wife, Terri, of Aurora, Colo., survive her. Four aunts, Eloise Ahrens, Millie Cobb and Ellie Cobb of Kerrville and Margaret White of Blanco, as well as many cousins and friends also survive her.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, in the Sonora Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Huffman officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Don Balch, Virgil Burge, Ronnie Cox, Reed Jennings, Bill Keel, Bruce Kerbow, Preston Love, Tommy Love, Billy Martin and Alfred Sykes.
