WALTER BLACK, JR.
Walter was born March 11, 1922 to Walter and Eva Black in Perryville, AR. He was the youngest of seven children. He came to California with his family during the depression. He lived the grapes of wrath. He was drafted and served in the army during WWII. In May 1947 he married the love of his life Lois Sullivan. Later they moved to Modesto where they had two children Kathryn and Steven. In 1954, they moved to Ceres where they have lived ever since. He worked as a farmer, and then later as a painter for Modesto City Schools until he retired. He was an active member of the Whitmore Church of Christ.
He survived by his wife, 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers remembrances can be made to the Ghana Mission fund in care of the Whitmore Church of Christ, 416. W. Whitmore , Modesto, CA, 95358.
A memorial service will be held at Whitmore Church of Christ on June 28th at 1:30 PM. A viewing will be held Sunday, June 27th from 1 - 4 PM at Franklin and Downs, 12th and G Streets, Modesto.

Walter Black Jr.
A memorial service was held at Whitmore Church of Christ on Monday for Walter Black Jr., 88, of Ceres. He died June 17, 2010.
The Colonial Chapel of Franklin and Downs was in charge of arrangements.
Born March 11, 1922 in Perryville, Ark., as the youngest of seven children of Walter and Eva Black, Walter came to California during the Depression. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and returned to marry Lois Sullivan in May 1947. They lived in Modesto where they raised two children. In 1954, they moved to Ceres where they have lived ever since. Mr. Black was a farmer, and then later worked as a painter for Modesto City Schools until his retirement. He was an active member of the Whitmore Church of Christ.
He leaves behind his wife, Lois Black of Ceres; two children, Kathryn and Steven Black; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
