WALTER SHELLEY CULPEPPER JR.
Walter Shelley Culpepper Jr., a retired physician, died Friday at his home. He was 82. Mr. Culpepper was born in Monroe and lived in New Orleans for many years. He graduated from Tulane University and Tulane University School of Medicine. He served as medical officer in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. He was on the staff of Ochsner Foundation Hospital and practiced general internal medicine for 36 years as a staff member, and later a partner, at Ochsner Clinic. He also was clinical professor of medicine at Tulane University. He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians and numerous other professional societies.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise McLean Culpepper; two sons, David McLean and Walter Shelly Culpepper Jr.; a daughter, Mary Margaret Culpepper Hesse of Pass Christian, Miss.; and six grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Monday at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., Metairie. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
