Explosion Burns Prove Fatal to W. C. `Bud' McCarty

COALGATE -- (Special) -- Services for Walter C. ``Bud'' McCarty, Coalgate butane company operator, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Coalgate's First Baptist church.

McCarthy [sic McCarty] died Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. He was burned in an explosion July 1 while on a ``refueling'' operation in Coalgate. For a while, it was thought the well known Coal county resident would survive. He is the owner of the Consolidated Gas Company.

McCarty was rushed to Valley View hospital after the explosion. He was suffering from second and third degree burns over approximately 50 per cent of his body.

Born in 1906 in the McCarty community, he married Theo Burleson in 1934. He is survived by his widow and three children, Buddy Lewis, Billy Randall and E. B.

Other survivors include: three brothers, Jack, Oklahoma City; Sam, Phoenix, Ariz., and Truett, Ada; and three sisters, Mrs. Julia Bayne, Kansas City; Mrs. Randall Green, Farmington, N. M., and Mrs. Lewis Lowrance, Sayre.

Rev. H. C. Klement will conduct the services which are under the direction of Slater's Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Coalgate cemetery.
