Services for Walter Lee Ostteen, Jr., 83, of Grayson were held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 3, 1999 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Ronald Lee Ostteen, Rev. Ronald Lee Ostteen, Jr. and Rev. Steven Homer Ostteen officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery west of Clarks.
Mr. Ostteen was born on May 28, 1916 in Richland Parish to the union of Walter Lee and Emma Etier Ostteen and died Wednesday, September 1, 1999 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia.
He owned and operated Ostteen's Grocery for some 22 years and retired with the Columbia Police Department where he served as night marshall. He was also a member of the First Church of God in Columbia. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sandra Ostteen McKenney.
Survivors include his wife of years: Allie Powell Ostteen of Grayson, his sons and daughters-in-law: Rev. Ronald Lee and Jean Marie Granger Ostteen of Sulphur, Walter "Dub" and Beth Ostteen of Baton Rouge, his daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and Willie Hines of Grayson, his brothers and sisters-in-law: W. H. and Catherine Ostteen of Columbia and J. V. and Jeannie Ostteen of Monroe, his sister: Hester Ostteen Mills of Columbia, eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Rev. Ronald Lee Ostteen, Jr., Rev. Steven Homer Ostteen, W. L. Hines, III, Dan Ellerbee and Rev. Vance Ray Curtis, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Walter Jackson Ostteen, II, and Rev. Daniel George McKenney.
