BARNES, WALTON J.
Mr. Barnes was a resident of Greenwell Springs. He was a retired attorney who practiced in the Baton Rouge area for 53 years and was a native of New Orleans. He died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at his residence at the age of 84.
Mr. Barnes was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Visitation at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.. Visitation at the funeral home from noon until religious service at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment in Greenwood Plantation Cemetery, near St. Francisville.
Survived by his wife of 10 years, Delores Lawrence Barnes; two sons, Walton J. Barnes II of Baton Rouge and Richard N. Barnes of St. Francisville; seven grandchildren, Walton J. Barnes III, Regina Barnes Tyndall, Richard N. Barnes II, Emma Barnes Moore, Meghan M. Barnes, Victoria Elizabeth Barnes and Whitney Helene Barnes; and a brother, Kenneth Barnes of Arabi.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Nettie Fay Barnes; and two brothers, Richard Barnes and James Whitney III.
Pallbearers will be Fred Bailey, Joe F. Stevenson, Richard Barnes II, Judge Jewel E. Welch, Walton Barnes III, Honorable Doug Welborn and Greg McElroy. Honorary pallbearers are Merle Shelton and Hardy Claxton.
He was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association.
