Wardell (McCarty) Skains
(December 5, 1930 - January 11, 2011)

Mrs. Wardell (McCarty) Skains, age 80 of Winnfield, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield.

Born Friday, December 5, 1930 in Sikes, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Guy McCarty and the late Zelma Violie (Thompson) McCarty.

She was a lifelong member of East Winnfield Baptist Church. Mrs. Skains retired from the Winn Parish School System. She loved baking and decorating cakes and was known as the “cake lady”.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Richard Wayne Skains; sons, Richard Lamar Skains and wife Leah of Brookhaven, MS, Terry Lynn Skains and wife Susan of Pensacola, FL and Mark Keevan Skains and wife Liz of Waco, TX, sisters, Mrs. Frank Sygallas and Mrs. J. W. Johnson; 10 grand children; 12 great grand children; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield with the Rev. Bruce Cardin and Rev. Terry Bartley officiating. Interment will be in Garden Of Memories Cemetery, Winnfield, LA.

Dwight Callender, M.G. Perry, Buddy Ferrand, Sidney Walton, John Kodger Thomas, and Rayford Green will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Crosby Adams, Jr., Dennis Skains, Eddie Johnson, Will Schuler, Keith Johnson, Kim Trammell, Rodney McCarty, Tim McCarty, and Michael Etheridge.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, and from 8:00 AM Thursday until service time at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.

Memorials may be made to the East Winnfield Baptist Church (Canopy Fund).
