W.C. ``Monk'' Taylor
February 11, 1921 - May 23, 2010

WAYMAN CLARENCE ``MONK'' TAYLOR, lifelong Pattison resident, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, in Katy, Texas at the age of 89.

Monk was born February 11, 1921, in Pattison, Texas. The son of Sidney Montrose and Dora Ann Greek Taylor, he was raised in Pattison and graduated from Pattison High School in 1938. He then worked on his father's farm for four years planting, cultivating and harvesting corn, cotton and peanut crops.

At the outbreak of World War II, Monk enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1942. A Military Policeman in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the Eighth Air Forces, he was a member of an air base security unit. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he then worked in the Brookshire area where he owned and operated Taylor's Drive Inn and Edmundson Drug Store.

Monk married Betty Beene on January 3, 1952, in Liberty, Texas. They made their home in Pattison where they were members of the Pattison United Methodist Church.

In 1966, Monk was elected Commissioner, and went on to serve five consecutive terms retiring after 20 years of consecutive service to Waller County.

He was an avid gardener and always had a large garden. He enjoyed cooking and barbecuing, and loved to dance.

Monk leaves behind his WIFE OF OVER 58 YEARS: Betty Beene Taylor; TWO SONS: Jackie Wayman Taylor and his wife, Gwendy Schurig Taylor, and Roy Michael Taylor and his wife, Susan Schurig Taylor; all of Pattison; FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Troy Hill, Angela Hill Turner, Joshua Taylor and Austin Taylor; FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Casey Hill, Colby Turner, Joey Turner and Katelyn Turner, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-daughter, Sherry Hill Pendleton, five brothers and two sisters.
