COLUMBIA.
Case of Smallpox Breaks Out in Heart of Town.

Special to The Times-Democrat.

Columbia, March 15. -- Mrs. S. V. Prince, wife of the proprietor of the Prince Hotel, was stricken with smallpox Sunday, which has caused no little anxiety among the people here. For some time there has been a great deal of smallpox among the negro populations of Wards One, Three and Seven, which have been closely watched.

As the Prince Hotel is right in the heart of the town, the authorities would not be surprised should other cases break out, and steps have been taken to effect a quarantine.
