WENDELL JAMES WHITTINGTON

Religious services were held Friday, January 15, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster for Wendell James Whittington, 82, of Gloster. Rev. Carson Dawson III and Rev. Gaylon Dawson officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery near Gloster.

Pallbearers were Dennis Whittington, Glen Whittington, Lance Ezell, Todd Ezell, Allen Warfield and Walter Warfield.

Honorary pallbearers were Louie Netherland, Junior Rushing, Arnell Rollins and Leonard Whittington.

Mr. Whittington passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at his residence.

Born July 26, 1927, in Amite County, Mr. Whittington was the son of Alvie E. and Ellen Whittington, both deceased, and raised by Marvin and Sylvia Jane ``Pet'' Whittington, both deceased, after his mother died when he was two years old.

Mr. Whittington was a retired School Teacher, and a member of New Hope Methodist-Protestant Church near Gloster. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents and rearing parents, Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Evelyn Whittington; four sisters, Geneva Partridge, Georgia Rollins, Hettie Petroff and Katie Rollins; and four brothers, Carmen Whittington, Cecil Whittington, Menon Whittington and Lewell Whittington.

Mr. Whittington is survived by his wife, Juanita Martin Whittington of Gloster; one daughter, Polly Spring and husband Mike of Smithdale; one son, Michael W. Whittington of Gloster and former wives, Hilda and Jean; three step-children, Allen Warfield of Gunnison, Mississppi, Walter Warfield and wife Kathy of Rueville, Mississippi, and Billie McNese and husband Lee of Oxford, Mississippi; grandchildren, Lance Ezell and wife Brandie of Mobile, Alabama, Todd Ezell and wife Cassie of Gloster, James Michael Whittington of Liberty, Melinda Carson and husband Billy of Summit, Lee McNese Jr. of Oxford and Nickie Warfield of Rueville; great-grandchildren, Zachary Thomas of Summit; Gabby Thomas of Summit and Madyson Ezell of Mobile; and one brother, Oddis Whittington of Bossier City, Louisiana.
