Wilbur Lee Whittington

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Services celebrating the life of Wilbur Lee Whittington, 88, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2006 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Juliet Spencer, pastor of Lakeview United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Stoner Avenue with Masonic Rites.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.

Mr. Whittington was born May 4, 1918 in Franklin County, MS to Conley and Francis Middleton Whittington. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Wilbur served in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II with the 565th Anti-Aircraft Battalion, a part of Patton's Third Army. He retired from Hanson Building Materials of America (formerly Gifford-Hill), after more than 45 years of service. Wilbur was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of Joppa Lodge 362, F&AM and El Karubah Shrine.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Lester Whittington, daughters, Connie Lerchie, Cynthia Whittington and Carol Rochelle and husband, Greg; son, Anderson Reed Whittington; and grandchildren, J.C. and Jacob Whittington, Jason, Nathan and Sarah Lerchie, Aaron Duncan, Bill and Charlie Neff and Dalton and Aubrey Rochelle.

Honoring Wilbur, as pallbearers will be Doug Neff, Paul Holomon, Ken Lerchie, Wilace Wise, Rufus Wilson, Charlie Lester and Robert Lester.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Shreveport Scottish Rite Speech and Language Center, P.O. Box 64, Shreveport, LA 71161.
