Wilbur Reginald Knowles

Wilbur Reginald Knowles, long time resident of Deer Park Texas, passed away on May 8, 2017 in Phoenix Arizona. Born July 5, 1924, Reginald was 92 years old. If there is something called a servants heart, it belonged to Reginald.

Reginald moved to Deer Park Texas in 1956 with his wife Frances, their daughter Sandy and son Reggie. He had taken a job with Shell Oil in the engineering department. He now joins his wife and daughter in heaven. Reginald attended the University of Oklahoma and was a proud Sooner. His studies focused on architecture and structural engineering. Once in Deer Park he soon became involved in civic activities. Reginald and his wife Frances were involved in the early years of First Baptist Church of Deer Park. Reginald and Frances helped start the first public library in Deer Park. Reginald served on the Planning and Zoning Commission in the 1960s. He represented Shell Oil in the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce. Reginald ran for election to the school board in Deer Park in 1975 and was elected and served for 18 years. He was both humbled and proud when the school district named the library at the south campus the W. Reginald Knowles Library in honor of his commitment to education. He continued his service to the public library by serving on the library board until just a few years before he moved to Phoenix.

Reginald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was deeply loved by his siblings and the many nieces and nephews but the light of his eye was indeed his wife Frances. He is buried next to his beloved Frances in Ruston Louisiana. His family asks that you join them at 2:00 pm Saturday October 14th at the W. Reginald Knowles Library located at the south campus of the Deer Park High School to celebrate the life of a great man. Dress will be casual and story telling will be abundant as we celebrate another of the Greatest Generation.
