W. A. McCARTY, SR.

W. A. McCarty, Sr., 94, of Quitman, died Sunday night in a Laurel hospital after a few weeks' illness.

Mr. McCarty was a lifelong resident of Clarke county, having been born in Shubuta in 1864. He was married to Miss Beverely Evans in 1892. In 1900 he moved to the Harmony community where he lived 58 years.

He was a member of the Methodist church and a citizen who took an active interest in national, state and local affairs.

Mr. McCarty is survived by his wife, three sons, W. A. McCarty, Jr. and Charlie E. McCarty, of Wichita Falls, Texas; I. H. McCarty, Oklahoma City, Okla.; five daughters, Mrs. B. S. Waddell, Crystal Springs; Miss Louise McCarty, Quitman; Mrs. J. C. Walker and Mrs. Ruth M. Kean, Hattiesburg and Miss Sarah McCarty, New Orleans. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete but services will be held sometime Tuesday morning at McGowan's Chapel Methodist church in the Harmony Community.
