William A. `Bill' McQueary
William A. `Bill' McQueary, 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 1, 2007.
Service was 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at First Baptist Church. Dr. Mark Bumpus officiated. Burial followed in Woodland Park Cemetery.
Bill was born Aug. 12, 1914, to Rev. William Harrison McQueary and Ruth Hawthorne McQueary in Gordon, Texas. Bill worked as a salesman for J.C. Penney and Hoffman's Department Store for many years and retired from Southern Airways. Bill was a lifelong resident of Palo Pinto County. Bill was a member of F Troop, 124th Calvary, and served in the China Burma India Theatre in World War II. Bill was awarded the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.
He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church where he was a member since 1939 and served emeritus as a Sunday School General Officer. He was past-president of the Palo Pinto County Livestock Association and a past member of the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Posse. Bill was an honorary Chapter Farmer of the MWHS FFA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W. H. and Ruth McQueary; and two brothers, Curtis McQueary and Amos McQueary.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Margaret Nichols McQueary of Mineral Wells; a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Terry Brock of Lake Palo Pinto; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Barbara McQueary of Big Spring; four grandchildren, Sherri Holder and her husband, Richard, of Gordon, Tom McQueary and wife, Jana, of Big Spring, Tim McQueary of Kerville, and Toby McQueary of Houston; his sisters and brother, Christine Hearne [sic Hearn] of Forth Worth, Fannie Jordon [sic Jordan] of Willis, Rachel Coker of Forth Worth and Weldon McQueary of Mineral Wells; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
