William A. McCarty
WICHITA FALLS -- Funeral services for William A. McCarty, 82, of 1612 Hayes, Wichita Falls, were to be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Alan Simons officiating and burial at Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. McCarty died Monday in Wichita Falls.
He was born July 7, 1893, in Quitman, Miss., and married Mildred Masters, the daughter of Professor Wallace Masters, longtime professor at North Texas State University. Mr. McCarty was owner and operator of Cigar and Tobacco Co. of Wichita Falls and was founder and board chairman of McCarty-Hall Inc. of Amarillo. He was a member of the Methodist Church, a life member of the Optimist Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Maskat Temple. He was also a Navy veteran of WWI and a 50-year member of the National Association of Tobacco Distributors.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Wichita Falls; one son, W. A. McCarty, Jr. of Amarillo; a daughter, Mrs. David Dawson of Denton; two brothers, I. H. McCarty of Oklahoma City, Okla. and C. E. McCarty of Wichita Falls; five sisters, Mrs. Austin Kean, Mrs. J. C. Walker, Mrs. Bedford Waddell and Louise McCarty, all of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Sarah McCarty of New Orleans, La.; and 10 grandchildren.
