W. A. McCarty dies at age 85; rites Friday

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hulett-Winstead Chapel for W.A. McCarty, 85, of 104 N. 32nd Ave., who died Wednesday night at Forrest General Hospital following a brief illness.

The Rev. Cecil Ryland will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mr. McCarty has been a resident of Hattiesburg since 1932. He is a retired schoolteacher, having taught at Petal, Dixie, Eatonville and Oak Grove in the Hattiesburg area and at Beaumont in Perry County.

Survivors include one son Manuel L. MCarty [sic McCarty] of Hattiesburg, one grandson, Michael L. McCarty, also of Hattiesburg, two granddaughters, Mrs. Mary Dillistone of Hattiesburg and Mrs. Muriel Palazzo of Gulfport, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, John McCarty of Decatur, Miss., and Walter McCarty of Biloxi, and a number of nieces and nephews.
