VANDAMENT

William Austin, 78, of Tuttle, born Oct. 5, 1908, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1987 at St. Anthony Hospital, OKC.

He was a graduate of Vinita High School, Vinita, Ok. He attended the following colleges specializing in journalism: Springfield, Mo., Aurora, Mo., OKC University, and Okla. State University.

He worked over 50 years in the publishing business throughout the state including the El Reno Tribune and, for 35 years, as publisher of the Tuttle and Minco newspapers. During 25 of these years he also ranched cattle. He was a member of the Okla. Cowboy Hall of Fame, the Tuttle Masonic Lodge No. 405 for 57 years, the Okla. Press Assn. and various other civic organizations in Minco and Tuttle.

He was especially proud to be a member of the Tuttle Christian Church for approximatley 40 years. He married Betty Chilton June 8, 1974 at the Tuttle Christian Church.

His survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home in Tuttle; his sister, Ruth Casida; 2 stepsons, Robert J. Hanigar Jr. and Steven Sucher; daughter-in-law, Susie Sucher; 3 step grandsons.

Services will be 10am Friday, Aug. 28, at the Tuttle Christian Church, George Williams officiating, burial at the Yukon Cemetery. Mr. Vandament will lie in state at the Tuttle Christian Church from 4pm Thursday to 9am Friday morning. Under the direction Reynolds Funeral Home, Minco.
