One of the County's Most Valued Citizens Gathered to His Reward

The news of the death of Mr. William P. Bullock, who died at his home at Steep Hollow at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, spread rapidly and cast a pall of sorrow over the entire community. He was taken ill ten days ago, and though everything possible was done for him in the best medical skill, the tenderest nuring [sic] -- it was to no avail, and gradually the taper of life burned lower and lower, finally going out at the hour mentioned, to be relighted by the flame of love on God's holy altar in heaven.

In his death Brazos County loses one of its most useful citizens and a leader in all good works. He was a man endeared to his community and to all who knew him because of his kindly, charitable spirit, his exemplary life and character and his honorable, upright dealings with his fellowmen. Not one detrimental word was ever heard of William P. Bullock, and he was held in universal esteem by neighbors and friends, and all who had ever come in contact with him. He was an honest man, the noblest work of God, and bequeaths to his children the proud heritage of a good name, which is to be desired rather than great riches.

He was born in Wynn [sic] Parish, La., and was 55 years of age. He came to Texas in 1868 with his parents and settled at Steep Hollow and has made his home in that community since that time. He was married to Miss Louraine Risinger about thirty years ago. To this union were born fifteen children, fourteen of whom survive their father.

He had been a member of the Steep Hollow Baptist Church since he was a young man and was an ardent worker in the cause of the Lord and a Christian gentleman in every sense of the word.

He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Friends in Need.

He is survived by his father Thomas F. Bullock of Shreveport, La., who was at his bedside at the time of his death, and by his widow and seven sons, Jesse, Lum, Edgar, Clarence, Sam, Horace and Curtis Bullock, and seven daughters, Mrs. Will Garner, Mrs. Coley Powers and Misses Sally, Amy, Willie, Gladys and Myrtie Bullock, all of Brazos County. He is also survived by a brother, A. S. Bullock of Prospect.

The funeral services were held from the residence at 4 O'clock this afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Steep Hollow cemetery. Rev. A. T. Coleman, Assistant pastor of the First Baptist Church of this city, conducted the funeral services.
