W. D. Grisham of Grace Dies At Vicksburg Hospital

W. D. Grisham, of Grace, merchant and planter of Issaquena county for 18 years, died in Street's Sanitarium at Vicksburg today after a brief illness. Mr. Grisham was 51.

A native Mississippian, Mr. Grisham was born at Selma where he lived until near a score of years ago when he moved to the Delta with his brother, Leon M. Grisham, and they entered the planting and mercantile business. Leon Grisham died in 1938.

Mr. Grisham was widely known in Issaquena county. He operated a large general merchandise store on Steele's Bayou, near Grace.

He leaves three sisters, Mrs. F. C. Sanford, Fort Worth, Texas; Miss Genevieve Grisham, St. Joseph, La.; and Mrs. J. K. Walton, Mule Shoe, Texas. Also surviving are two nephews, Leon and William Harrison Grisham, Natchez.

Funeral arrangements in charge of Stovall Funeral Home are incomplete.

Services Will Be Held Near Natchez For W. D. Grisham

Funeral services will be held today at Pine Ridge Presbyterian church, near Natchez, for William Duncan Grisham, Issaquena county merchant and planter, who died in a Vicksburg hospital yesterday. Mr. Grisham became ill at his store between Mayersville and Grace early Tuesday and was rushed to Street's Sanitarium in Vicksburg.

Born in Adams county and educated in the schools there and at Jefferson College, Mr. Grisham came to the Delta 18 years ago with [Leon] M. Grisham, to enter the merchantile [sic mercantile] business. Leon Grisham died in 1938.

At the time of his death, Mr. Grisham was chairman of the selective service board of Issaquena county. He was a Thirty-Second degree Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner.
