EVANS, WILLIAM “COACH BILL”

A recreation director with Ascension Parish for nine years, he died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in Baton Rouge. He was 58, a resident of Gonzales and a native of Alexandria.

Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, with the Rev. Joel LaBauve officiating.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Bourque Evans; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lamar and Tracy Evans and Lane Evans; a brother, Buddy Evans; a sister, Joan Evans Attaway; and two grandchildren, Parker and Perri Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loy William Evans and Hilton Fowler Evans; and a sister, Glenda Lester.

Pallbearers will be Lane Evans, Lamar Evans, Loy Evans, Treg Keller, Jay Brignac, Olin Berthelot, Buddy Evans and Brandon Berthelot.

Bill was co-founder of Dixie Boys Baseball Program in Gonzales and coached for seven years, including coach of “1997 World Champions” 13 year olds. He was also head coach for American Legion baseball for six years.
