William E. ``Bill'' Matthews

NEDERLAND -- William E. ``Bill'' Matthews, 71, of Nederland passed away Thursday, March 28, 2007 at his residence in Nederland.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2007 at Broussard's in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends to be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday evening March 29, 2007 at the mortuary. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas.

He was a native of Port Arthur, Texas and lived the past 40 years of his life in Nederland. He was a retired lab tech for Chevron Chemical in Orange. Bill graduated from T.J. High School in 1953 and Lamar in 1957.

Bill was a member of 7th Street Baptist Church in Nederland, where he was an assisted Music Director for many years, he was also a past Director of the Adult Sunday School, MC for the Sweetheart Banquets, and lead a nursing home mission for years. He was a member and past president of Concerned Citizens for Special Needs Children.

Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruby Matthews of Nederland; sons, Phillip Matthews and wife Lauren of Orange, Kent Matthews and wife Samantha of CA, Lance Matthews of Nederland, Michael Benson of Nederland; daughter, Cathy Nohavitza and husband Brad of Port Neches; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Landon, Mallory, Katie, Dustin, and Allison; and a host of other relatives and friends.
