Funeral services for Mr. W. F. “Bill” Gates, 60, of the Deadwood Community were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995 at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage. Interment followed in Deadwood Ceemtery. Mr. Gates died Friday, Feb. 24 at his home.

Born on June 9, 1934 in Shreveport, La., he was the son of E. W. and Martha Gwin Gates. Mr. Gates had lived in Panola County for the past 32 years and was a civil engineer and surveyor in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood, La.

Mr. Gates is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louella Gates of Deadwood; his mother, Mrs. Martha Carver of Shreveport; three sons, Jesse Gates of Beckville, David Gates of Kilgore, and Greg Gates of Carthage; two brothers, Wesley Gates of Center, and Kenneth Gates of Skiatook, Okla.; one sister, Kathyrn Flowers of Shreveport; six grandchildren, Ginger, Michelle, Robyn, Mary Linn, Karen and Taylor.

Pallbearers were Bill Stewart, Reagan Stewart, Tom Flowers, Graham Stewart, Robert Gates and Frank Flowers.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Carl Foster, Bobby Rains, Terry Gates, Ronnie Pollard, Steve Springer and Jerry Gates.

The family requests that memorials may be made to the Deadwood Cemetery Association.
