William McCarty

Funeral services for William J. McCarty, 55, were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 16, from the Eastside Pelahatchie Baptist Church. The officiating ministers were the Rev. Travis Polk, and the Rev. Leroy Boykin. Interment was in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Smith County.

McCarty died Thursday at the VA Hospital in Jackson. A disabled truck driver, he was a native of Smith County, and a former resident of Polkville, and Pearl, and had been a resident of Pelahatchie for the past seven years. He was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church, Pelahatchie.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Lee McCarty, Pelahatchie; one step-son, Wesley Hughes, Pelahatchie; one step-daughter, Mrs. Nancy Haskins, Dekalb; five brothers, James McCarty, Texas, Rayborn McCarty, Florida, Clayborn McCarty, Pearl, and Harry and Louie McCarty, both of Polkville; one sister, Mrs. Merkel Vanderslice, Bay Springs, and 9 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael Vanderslice, Kenneth Stringer, Donny McCarty, Dewey McCarty, J. W. Haskins, Jewel Searcy, and Danny Fergurson.
