William (Bill) Isom Johnson, Jr
William (Bill) Isom Johnson, Jr. of Norman, Oklahoma passed away January 31, 2008. The funeral will be Monday February 4, 2008, 10:30 AM at the Duplex Baptist Church in Ivanhoe, Texas. Burial will be at the Duplex Cemetery. Rev. Brian Everett of Telephone Baptist Church will officiate assisted by Rev. Don Miars Chaplain of the Yeshua Riders of Sherman.
Born on October 12, 1958 in Jackson, Mississippi. Bill was a strong Christian, led a very active life and attended Journey Church. He was an Olympic Style wrestler as a youth -- winning both British & European Continental Honors. He was accomplished in Martial arts and Tai Chi. He was involved with Yeshua Riders Christian Motorcyclist Association of Sherman, Texas. He enjoyed cycling. Bill also had a passion for reading - he especially enjoyed the writings of J.R. Tolkien, all science fiction as well as all the writings of Peter Hathaway Capstick.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a Nuclear Propulsion Specialist on the Sturgeon Class Attack Submarine USS Sunfish. He was awarded the Lion's Citizenship Award as the most outstanding recruit of his San Diego based US Navy recruiting class. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas; Lee College of Baytown; Roger's State College of Oklahoma; and Northeastern Oklahoma State University. He also attended Texas A&M University. Bill had a passion for exercise, the study of mathematics and engineering physics. He loved to fellowship around a good cup of strong coffee. He could figure out and fix anything. He was a loving husband and wonderful father who could do just about everything from cooking a gourmet meal to teaching his son to handle and clean a rifle, and he enjoyed fly fishing, playing guitar and weight lifting.
He is survived by his wife Annette and sons James `Buster', Joebee, and Paul all of Norman, Oklahoma, his adopted Grandma Annie of McKinney, Texas. Parents William Isom Johnson Sr. and Janyce Johnson, Grandmother Beatrice Johnson all of Bonham, Texas. Three younger brothers and their families: Jeff Johnson of San Antonio, Texas; Al Johnson of Baytown, Texas; and Lee Johnson of San Antonio, Texas. Aunt, Ellen Esses and Uncle, Col. David Esses of Niceville, Florida.
The family will receive friends at the Duplex Baptist Church from 9:30 until service time on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the 7th and Main Baptist Church, Duplex Baptist Church or Trinity Baptist Church.
