W. J. Purvis Dies At Family Home

W. J. Purvis, 79, passed away at the family residence, 323 Vardaman street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock after a lengthy illness.

A resident of Jackson 15 years he was a member and deacon of the Davis Memorial Baptist church. He came to Jackson from Star and formerly resided at Puckett.

Besides his wife, Mr. Purvis is survived by two sons, Moody R. Purvis of Morton and Clyde E. Purvis of the U. S. Marines at San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Miss Maud Purvis and Miss Madge Purvis, both of Jackson; and a sister, Mrs. A. McLain, of White Oak.

The body will lie in state at the family residence until 2:30 Monday afternoon with services at 3 p.m. from the Davis Memorial church by the pastor, Rev. A. S. Johnston, assisted by the Rev. R. Y. Gerrard, pastor of the Morton Baptist church.

Active pall bearers include Sam Evans, Floyd Kimbrough, Pete Frierson, Woodrow Travis, Esten Yow, Utley Pittman, Millett Padenford, and William Love.

Honorary pall bearers will include deacons of the Davis Memorial Baptist church and officers and employes of the Capital National bank.
