William James Gaar

WILLIAMSBURG -- William James Gaar, 87, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 23, 2005. He was born in Lake Charles, La., and has been a Williamsburg resident for over 50 years. He has been a member of Grace Baptist Church for many years. Mr. Gaar was a Veteran of Foreign Wars and served in the Navy as a Carpenter's First Mate. After the war Mr. Gaar continued to work as a local carpenter for many years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Huggett of Hampton, Va., and Sandra Landon of Williamsburg. Also surviving him are his four grandchildren, David West and Bill West, Michael Cross and Joshua Landon; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his former wife and special friend, Mildred Gaar.

One of Mr. Gaar's favorite past times was enjoying a good cup of coffee with his buddies. He was beloved by many and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., at 11 a.m. on Friday. A gathering for friends and family will follow in the lounge. Interment services private.
