William N. Powers

William N. ``Slick'' Powers, 68, of Steep Hollow died in a local hospital Wednesday.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Callaway-Jones Funeral Home. The Revs. Louie Walston and Clyde Copeland will officiate. Burial will be in Steep Hollow Cemetery.

Graveside services will be under the auspices of Cedar Creek Lodge No. 300 AF&AM.

Powers, a native of Brazos County, was an electrician at Texas A&M University before his retirement. He had served in the infantry during World War II. Powers was a member and a deacon of Steep Hollow Baptist church.

Powers Masonic memberships and honors include: past master of Cedar Creek Masonic Lodge at Kurten; district deputy grand master in 1972; 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Club; past presiding officer of the three York Rite Bodies; recipient of the Knight York Cross of Honor; member of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests and the Red Cross of Constantine; recipient of the Order of the Silver Trowel and the Order of High Priesthood; member of the Ivanhoe Commandry No. 8, W.T. Austin Council 52, W.T. Austin Chapter 87 and of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 222.

Survivors include his wife, Norine Powers of Steep Hollow; two sons, Bill Powers of Austin, Kenneth R. Powers of Bryan, two brothers, Lum Powers, John Powers, both of Bryan; three sisters, Ina Dyess, Maudell Greer, both of Bryan, Artie Barnett of Waco; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Steep Hollow Baptist Church, Route 3 Box 385, Bryan 77802; or to a favorite charitable organization.
