William Oscar McCoy
William Oscar McCoy, age 85, formerly of Yellville, passed away in Kerrville, Texas on Thursday, August 29. He was born on October 11, 1921, the first of three brothers born to Floyd McCoy and Elsie May (Frame) McCoy. He was born in the home on the farm of his grandfather, Thomas Bartlett Frame, then located about two miles east of Flippin, Arkansas, opposite the Rea Valley Road. Oscar was a 1941 graduate of Yellville-Summit High School, attended University of Arkansas and graduated in 1949 with a degree in education. He was a teacher in Tyronza, Arkansas for six years and taught Agriculture at Yellville-Summit High School from fall of 1955 through spring of 1983 and was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. Oscar was a member of the Yellville First Baptist Church and formerly served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army Air Corps. He married Helen Mae Anders on June 17, 1946. Helen preceded him in death on August 27, 2003.
He is survived by his youngest brother, Charles Edgar McCoy and wife, June, of City of Commerce (Los Angeles), California; one son, William Michael McCoy and wife, Sharon, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and their son (Oscar's grandson), Michael Nathan McCoy, of San Diego, California; one daughter, Marsha Suzanne McCoy-Sebesta and her husband, Dan Sebesta , of Kerrville, Texas. Oscar was preceded in death by his wife Helen Mae (Anders) McCoy; his father, Floyd, mother Elsie, and second brother, Floyd Melvin McCoy.
Pallbearers will be Doyne Treat, Charles Jefferson, Phil Rook, Virgil Ott, Jr., Sam Pasthing and Steve Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are Earl Wood, Lester Pickel, Jim Epling, Jim Hickman, and Mr. McCoy's Adult Sunday School class.
Visitation will be between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1. Funeral services will be Sunday, September 2 at 2:20 p.m. at the Yellville First Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Canary officiating. Interment to follow at Layton Cemetery in Yellville.
