William “Zero” Lewis
LUFKIN -- William O. “Zero” Lewis, 88, of Diboll was born on Feb. 28, 1921, the son of the late Amanda (Hegler) and William Hartwell Lewis. He died on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in a local hospital.
He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean conflict as a military rancher and retired in 1961 as a captain. He was a charter member of Corrigan VFW and Corrigan Masonic Lodge for 59 years. He wrote a column titled “Comments from Corrigan” in the Corrigan Times from 1968-1999.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Lewis of Diboll; sister-in-law, Ruth Tidwell of Burke; brother-inlaw and sister-in-law, Tom B. and Louise McKinney of Burke; nephew, Leon Tidwell of Burke; niece, Suzanne Norris and her husband Dewayne of Tyler and a number of other family members.
Services for Mr. Lewis were held Tuesday, April 21, in the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Bro. Jerry Chandler officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Gipson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
