William Simmons
William Reuben Simmons, 86, retired attendant at the Gulfport Veterans Administration Hospital, died Sunday morning at 9:30 o'clock at his residence, Rt. 1, Box 158, Long Beach, on Pineville road.
Mr. Simmons, born July 9, 1887, in Jasper County, had been a resident of the Coast since 1945. He retired from the VA 23 years ago.
Mr. Simmons was a veteran of World War I, having served with the U.S. Army Infantry. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fronie Bolivar Simmons, Long Beach; two sons, William Robert Simmons, Southaven, Miss., and Charles Thomas Simmons, Gulfport; four daughters, Mrs. Eloise Mohler, Long Beach, Mrs. Opal Jordan, Gulfport, Mrs. Dorothy Bourne, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Martha Jo Bourne, Adelaide, South Australia; one brother, John Simmons, Tyler, Tex.; three sisters, Mrs. Mittie Ray and Mrs. Candyce Symon, Ellisville, and Mrs. Grace Elzey, Soso; 21 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 6:30 Monday evening at Riemann Funeral Home Chapel in Long Beach.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Waugh, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Gardens.
