WILLIAM T. DUNN
Oakdale, La., Dec. 27 (Special). -- William T. Dunn, 84, one of the oldest residents of Oakdale, and donator of the original site of Oakdale, died at his home here Saturday following an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the West Oakdale Baptist church, with the Rev. Frank Lawrence, pastor, officiating.
Mr. Dunn had made his home in Oakdale since he was a young man. He donated the present town site when the postoffice was first established, and the town was named Dunnville in his honor. After the building of the railroad through here the name was changed from Dunnville to Oakdale.
Surviving are his wife; three sons: Ezaria [sic Ezra] and Woodrow Dunn of Oakdale, and Thomas Dunn of Jonesville; seven daughters, Messina [sic Masena] Dickens of Pitkin, Mrs. Story [sic Stacy] Gillespie of Melder, Mrs. Marguerite Myers [sic Margaret Maier], of Jonesville, and Mrs. Pearl Hump[h]ries, Mrs. Mandy Markle, Mrs. Jergin Sharp, and Miss Maggie Dunn, all of Oakdale; one brother, Jim Dunn of Forest Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Lora [sic Laura] Henderson of Glenmora, and Mrs. Mandy Odom of LeCompte.
Interment was in the Oakdale cemetery.
