WELDON, WILLIAM VICKERY, M.D., age 68, of Mountain Brook, died May 2, 2000. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 7, 1931, and graduated from Phillips High School in 1949. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Alabama and received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham in 1957, where he was a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity.

Dr. Weldon served in the United States Medical Corps from 1958 to 1964, where he was Chief of Radiology at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1962 to 1964. He interned at St. Vincents Hospital and completed his residency in Radiology at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. from 1958 to 1961. He was appointed as a Diplomat of the American College of Radiology in 1962 and became a fellow of the American College of Radiology in 1972. In 1964, Dr. Weldon entered private practice in Birmingham, Alabama with Radiology Associates of Birmingham. During his career, he was a member of numerous medical organizations and held many offices as President of the American College of Radiology, 1973-1974; Chairman of the Jefferson County Board of Health, 1982; Chief of Brookwood Hospitals Radiology Department, 1973-1980. He returned to St. Vincents Hospital in 1980 where he remained until his retirement in 1996.

Dr. Weldon was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church for many years. His varied interests included gardening and genealogy. Dr. Weldon is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Eddings Weldon; two daughters, Cynthia Marie Weldon of San Francisco, Calif., and Jennifer Weldon Bennett of Birmingham, Ala.; and one son, William Vickery Weldon, Jr. of Birmingham. He has one brother, Raymond E. Weld on of Waco, Tex. He is survived by two grandsons, Davis W. Bennett, IV and William Weldon Bennett; one son-in-law, Davis W., Bennett, III; and one daughter-in-law, Stephanie E. Weldon.

Dr. Weldon was preceded in death by his parents, William Claude Weldon and Willie Mae Vickery Weldon.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 10 between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. at Ridouts-Brown Valley Chapel, 1802 Oxmoor Road.

The funeral service will be held at Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, with Dr. Paul Basden officiating on Thursday, May 11 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Ridouts Valley Chapel in charge of arrangements.
