W. W. CHAPMAN

NEWTON -- Funeral services for William Walter Chapmen [sic Chapman], 68, of Rt. 1, Newton was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pine Bluff Baptist Church north of Newton. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Chapman, a retired carpenter, died Saturday at the Newton Hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks. He was a native of Newton County, born Oct. 23, 1903, his parents being Leona McCarty and Sam Tillman Chapman. He was a member of the Pine Bluff church and of the Newton Masonic Lodge No. 57.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Vernie Estelle Barrett Chapman; four daughters, Mrs. Ruby Smith of Jackson, Mrs. Nell Howard of Pottsville, Ark., Mrs. Margie Blankenship of Exeter, Calif., and Mrs. Dot Gibbs of Newton; a son, W. C. Chapman of Newton; 17 grandchildren; [two sisters, Mrs.] Bessie Bolton of Newton and Mrs. Eunice Sparkman of Hazlehurst; and two brothers, Thomas and Horace Chapman, both of Newton.
