Shotgun Kills S'water Man

SWEETWATER -- Willie Emmit (Bill) Grayson, 64, died Wednesday night from a shotgun blast in the upper part of his body.

Sheriff Joe Slater said the shooting followed a quarrel in the 1000 block of West Alabama St., about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Billy Gray Smith, 42, of Sweetwater, was in Nolan County jail Wednesday night and was charged with murder in Justice of the Peace Ralph Shaffer's court by Slater Wednesday night.

Bond had not been set by presstime Wednesday night.

Mr. Grayson was born Sept. 23, 1905, in Sweetwater. He had lived in Sweetwater all his life. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. A. T. Worsham, Mrs. O. B. McQueen, both of Sweetwater, Mrs. Tommie Shaddix of Duarte, Calif. and Mrs. Ruby Brand of Amarillo; two brothers, Finis and Ivan, both of Dallas.

Bill Grayson

SWEETWATER (RNS) -- Funeral for Willie Emmit (Bill) Grayson, 63, who died of a shotgun blast in his upper body Wednesday night, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Patterson-McCoy Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Raymond Dunn, pastor of Fundamental Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.

Mr. Grayson was shot after an alleged quarrel in the 1000 block of W. Alabama about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Nolan County Sheriff Joe Slater.

Mr. Grayson was born Sept. 23, 1906, in Merkel and had been a lifetime resident of Sweetwater. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors are four sisters, Mrs. A. T. Worsham, Mrs. O. B. McQueen, both of Sweetwater, Mrs. Tommie Shaddix of Duarte, Calif., and Mrs. Ruby Brand of Amarillo; two brothers, Finis and Ivan, both of Dallas.
