Laverne (Bignar) Cannon, 83 of Jena, Louisiana was received into Heaven on Saturday, December 20, 2014.
She was born Saturday, January 31, 1931 in Jena, to the union of William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Hudnall) Bignar. Mrs. Cannon was a life long member of Crossroad Baptist Church. She was the matriarch of 5 generations.
Mrs. Cannon is preceded in death by her husband of 39 Years, Horace Cannon; her parents; a son Danny Lynn Cannon; a granddaughter Meredith Diane “Mary” Hudnall; a great granddaughter Tessa Diane Poole.
Those left to love and cherish her, son Colon Cannon & wife Carolyn of Monroe; two daughters, Barbara Hudnall & husband Rev. Mickey of Jena and Lennie Cockerham & husband Bennie of Jena; a brother, Rev. Joey Bignar of Jonesboro; two sisters, Inez Keene of Jena and Jimmie Doughty of Farmington, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 5:00 pm until 9:00PM on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service at the church.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Mickey Hudnall, Rev. Jimmy Keene, and Rev. Tony Wilson officiating. Mrs. Cannon will be laid to rest in Tidwell Cemetery, of the Sharptown Community, near Jena, La.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Cannon, Dewayne Cockerham, Bart McGuffee, Evan Thacker, Coy McGuffee, and Jamie Bignar. Honorary pallbearers are her Sunday School Class at Crossroads Baptist Church.
