INJURY FATAL TO JONESBORO CWA WORKMAN

W. C. Starks, 65, Succumbs to Numerous Fractures of Ribs and Leg

Injuries sustained Wednesday by W. C. Starks, 65, Jonesboro CWA worker, when he was run down by a taxicab driven by C. F. Daley, 35, proved fatal at a local sanitarium shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday.

Starks suffered six rib fractures, a fracture of the left leg and numerous cuts and bruises. He was in a critical condition when he was admitted to the hospital.

According to reports from Jonesboro, Starks was run down when he attempted to cross the Jonesboro-Hodge highway about a mile out of Jonesboro. The driver rammed on his brakes but could not stop the car in time to avoid an accident. The rear end of the machine struck the CWA worker.

Charges of manslaughter may be filed against Daley today, Jonesboro officials said. Daley, a Jonesboro watch maker, was driving the cab Wednesday to help out a sick friend.

Starks' body was taken in charge by a Jonesboro funeral home shortly after his death. The man is survived by his widow and several children.
